BMDCNI Breeder Referral Program

While the Bernese Mountain Club of Northeastern Illinois, Inc., neither recommends nor endorses any individual, the Club does offer a listing of member-breeders and available puppies as a service to the public.

The following criteria applies to those breeders listed on Breeder Referral:

Breeders MUST be participating members of the BMDCNI for at least TWO years, and a voting member for ONE year and be current in dues

Particpating members MUST attend TWO general meetings per calendar year and work on an active committee or at a club event during the previous year

New breeders to this list MUST show that any litter bred in the previous calendar year has been registered with the AKC

Breeders are planning on breeding their bitch in the upcoming year

Pet puppies MUST be sold on a spay/neuter agreement (contract) and limited registration. Breeders on this list MUST register all litters with the AKC. Breeders/owners accept responsibility for all puppies they produce.

Parents of current litter MUST be DNA profiled

DNA profile must be sent to the program administrator before the breeder can be hightlighted. To be hightlighted for 8 weeks, breeder needs to notify the program administrator as soon as pups are whelped

Club REQUIRES permanent identification of the bitch via either microchip or tattoo.

Club REQUIRES OFA certificate of hips/elbows evaluation

Club strongly recommends current eye certification, testing for vWD or cleared by parentage, and a cardiac evaluation. Club recommends test results be entered into Berner-Garde to help with the health of the breed

Breeders agree to pay a designated fee to the Club to help support the Media Fund.

Breeders MUST have exhibited in an AKC or BMDCA show or trial within the last TWO years.

Breeder Referral Membership is renewed each calendar year.
